Texas General Land Office Administering $1 Billion in Harvey Aid
An accomplished engineer, entrepreneur, and civic leader, Karun Sreerama guides Houston’s SRRE Developers and Builders, LLC, as principal. Moved to help rebuild the city after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, Karun Sreerama has channeled his business efforts into increasing the amount of affordable housing units in the Houston area.
On December 3, 2018, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that property owners in certain Texas counties impacted by Hurricane Harvey can now apply for a new Homeowner Assistance Program. The Texas General Land Office is allocating more than $1 billion to disaster recovery efforts in the form of Community Development Block Grants. At more than $1 billion, the GLO-administered program is the largest single initiative launched to help Houston families rebuild.
Drawn from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding, the allocation is earmarked for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of owner-occupied, single-family homes damaged by the hurricane. Candidates for the recovery funds can seek in-person help with their application at one of several regional Homeowner Assistance Program offices. Awards will be disbursed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Houston Rolls Out Homeowner Reimbursement Program for Harvey Recovery
With extensive expertise in both construction and engineering, Karun Sreerama founded and leads SRRE Developers and Builders in Houston. Dedicated to supporting the city’s recovery post-Hurricane Harvey, Karun Sreerama has poured much of his energy into expanding the supply of affordable housing.
Beginning in the fall of 2018, residents whose homes sustained damage in Hurricane Harvey will be able to apply to the City of Houston for reimbursement for some of their home repair expenses.
The reimbursements sought through the Homeowner Reimbursement Program must be “reasonable”; in other words, they must be typical costs associated with modest repairs. Damage to luxury items, such as marble countertops, Jacuzzis, pools, or high-end appliances, is not eligible for reimbursement. In addition, homeowners cannot claim labor costs for work they did themselves. The City of Houston will inspect properties of people submitting claims to verify the work completed.

Saving Space When Packing for a Trip
As principal of the Asset Management Consultants in Houston, Texas, Karun Sreerama invests in startup companies. Outside of work, Karun Sreerama enjoys traveling.
Many travelers overspend on trips because they take too many large suitcases. Here are a few tips to help you pack fewer items:
- To save space, start with a small suitcase or bag that can be checked on a plane. Using a small suitcase prevents you from packing unnecessary items.
- Roll clothes instead of folding them so the clothing takes up less space in a suitcase.
- Limit the shoes you take to one casual pair and one formal pair. Place shoes in the bottom of the suitcase, and pack smaller items, such as socks, inside the shoes.
- Instead of packing bulky items such as jackets and sweaters, wear them. This leaves more room in the suitcase for other clothing or for souvenirs from your trip.
