Saving Space When Packing for a Trip

Many travelers overspend on trips because they take too many large suitcases. Here are a few tips to help you pack fewer items:

- To save space, start with a small suitcase or bag that can be checked on a plane. Using a small suitcase prevents you from packing unnecessary items.

- Roll clothes instead of folding them so the clothing takes up less space in a suitcase.

- Limit the shoes you take to one casual pair and one formal pair. Place shoes in the bottom of the suitcase, and pack smaller items, such as socks, inside the shoes.

- Instead of packing bulky items such as jackets and sweaters, wear them. This leaves more room in the suitcase for other clothing or for souvenirs from your trip.
